See What Others Say!
Jack BloomfieldI have been on dozens of retreats in the past 40 years and I can't say enough good things about RMERC. My week spent there during the meditation nature retreat was so very special in so many ways. Will be passing along a recommendation to family and friends for sure.Angelina LloydI just completed my first weeklong Retreat ! I wholeheartedly recommend! The environment is spectacular. The food delicious! The accommodations were beautiful, simple and perfect for my needs in every way!Lila Low-BeinartWhat an amazing group of teachers and beautiful, healing land the Ecodharma retreat center is located on. If you want to deepen your connection to your self and to nature, I highly recommend coming here!Gonzalo RondaSuch a beautiful, quiet and impressive place for retreats. Participated in the 6- days silent retreat "Finding your True Nature in Nature", holding meditations and hikes around the incredible and quiet trails that surround the Center. The lodge was very clean, quiet and tidy, the food was wonderful. The teachers Jon and Ben, and the lodge manager Joel were all extremely kind and responsive. I highly recommend the retreat and the Center.Aj RedwoodThis is a wonderful retreat center set in nature. I camped during my retreat, and it was such an amazing experience. The food is healthy and all vegetarian cooked with so much love.Sophie Hoats (Sophie Marie Wellness)I just had my first silent retreat experience here with Peter and it was one of the most profound experiences of my life. By the end, I was utterly blissed out. Some highlights of the land and space include meditating outside on the deck at sunrise while watching moose graze, stargazing at night, and sitting by the peaceful creek during the day. They also have plenty of hiking trails (1-3 mile loops) surrounding the lodge so you can explore endlessly. The food was fabulous and nourishing - I really enjoyed every meal. The lodge itself is cute, clean and well-maintained. My bed and room were very comfortable. I would highly recommend this wonderful place.Chris ChappellAmazing land, innovative practices, skilled teachers, what more could you ask for? If you a Buddhist meditator, a nature lover, or wanting to find a better connection with yourself and the earth, this place is for you.Bryan BowenSuch an amazing place to practice, and it draws amazing teachers as well.Rosemary DuprayI've had the good fortune to be able to do several Retreats at this Center. The Center is beautiful.. a lovely historic building set in the midst of the stunning Rocky Mountains . The teachers are high quality, food is delicious. The emphasis on ecology and the Dharma is so essential to what is needed on this planet at this time. It was a wonderful experience for me. The fact that I was able to camp at this amazing landscape was a bonus although there is also great indoor accommodations as well. The teachers, ecology, natural settings, food...It's a 10 Star! Rosemary Dupray New MexicoTom KarrelThis place is magic. I've attended three 5-day retreats there, and each experience has been transformative and taught me so much. Food and staff on-site have always been wonderful. And, the teacher (Barry Gillespie) that I've done all my retreats with is truly amazing!
Workshops and Retreats for Activists
Ecodharma programs use the healing powers of meditation in nature to transform activism into a spiritual path of service to the earth and all beings.
Silent Meditation Retreats
For local and national Sanghas, especially those offered in the spirit of generosity, with teachers receiving only expenses and donations (Dana).
Retreats for Under-served Communities
We encourage retreats that include people of color, veterans, youth, and other groups which have and continue to bear the brunt of ecological and socio-economic devastation, and are often at the forefront of spiritually rooted activism.
What is Ecodharma?
“For me in this dark time, Rocky Mountain Ecodharma Retreat Center is a shining beacon. It offers what we most need: the inspired leadership of committed teachers, a wild mountain setting to awaken our own power and beauty, the ripening of a Sangha to grow a guiding vision for our people, and the strength to make it real.”
— Joanna Macy, Ph.D. Buddhist Teacher, Activist, and Founder, The Work That Reconnects Network
At RMERC, we bring Buddhism and Dharma back into the natural world where they originated, and in doing so, regain the connection and energy necessary to effectively address ecological and related social crises. We call all of this Ecodharma.
Ecodharma practices help us develop clarity, compassion, and courage, which are all needed to face humanity’s greatest challenge ever: the ecological crisis.

Mission
Rocky Mountan Ecodharma Retreat Center is a low cost home for spiritual practice, with an emphasis on practice in nature. We are a supportive place for deep practice, a place for meditation, retreats, workshops and Ecodharma; a place for learning from nature, teachers and other participants, and a place for discovering ourselves in a wild environment.
We bring Buddhism and Dharma back into the natural world where they originated, and in doing so, regain the connection and energy necessary to effectively address ecological and related social crises. Our Vision
Rocky Mountain Ecodharma Retreat Center is a home for low-cost meditation retreats and workshops in nature. The programs we are most excited about include:
- Ecodharma workshops and retreats for activists, using the healing power of meditation in nature to ground and transform activism into a spiritual path of service to the community and to the earth.
- Low cost retreats that are offered in the spirit of generosity, with teachers receiving only expenses and donations (Dana).
- Silent meditation retreats, in groups and also on supported solos. All spiritual practice traditions are welcome, and local Sanghas are encouraged to use RMERC for weekends and day-longs as well as for longer retreats.
- Retreats for underserved communities including people of color, veterans, youth, and other groups who have historically borne or will bear the brunt of ecological and socio-economic devastation; and are often at the forefront of spiritually-rooted activism.
While the 180-acres of the center provide an ideal setting for outdoor and nature-focused retreats, the lodge will be comfortable year round for indoor retreats of up to 30 people. If you are interested in offering a retreat or workshop please contact us about renting RMERC. Above are the kinds of programs we most want to encourage, but we are open to others as well. Learn More
Ecodharma
Ecodharma connects Dharma teachings and practice with nature and the Earth. It involves spiritual practices to help us develop clarity, compassion, and courage, which are all needed to face humanity’s greatest challenge ever: the ecological crisis.
Both individual and collective transformation are needed: meditation overcomes the delusion of separation that is at the root of individual and societal suffering, and practicing in nature deepens our understand of non-duality to encompass the earth, inspiring us to work for its healing as our own.Why an ecodharma center now?
