Johann RobbinsCo-LeaderJohann has been meditating since starting with TM in college in 1974. He was asked by Eric Kolvig to begin teaching in 2008, and completed Community Dharma Leader teacher training at Spirit Rock shortly thereafter. His primary Insight teachers were Eric Kolvig, Joseph Goldstein, and Shinzen Young, and his primary Direct Path teachers were Adyashanti, Stephan Bodian, and Rupert Spira.
Johann’s passion is spiritual practice in and with nature, and he has guided and taught wilderness meditation retreats for almost 30 years, including backpacking, camping, canoeing and solo Vision Quests. In 2016 Johann founded RMERC, where he served as unpaid Executive Director until 2022, and President of the Board until 2023.
Johann’s style is caring and open, yet focused and clear. He is committed to a practical, non-dogmatic approach to dharma in nature, with the understanding that what works best for one person may be different than another, and that, like everything else, changes over time.

EVENT DESCRIPTION
As the fall days grow shorter and the weather cools, this retreat is a chance to ease into your own fall: to fall into being. A chance to let go of goals and struggles, news and devices, complexity and demands, and simply be. The retreat will be simple, easy, and spacious, allowing your own natural awareness to reveal itself, without striving or effort.
Often November is sunny and not that cold, and we will take advantage of that as much as we can, sitting and walking outside in nature. The trees, rocks, creek and sky are simply being, and meditating peacefully among them brings us to our own being as well. Nothing will be forced, meditation instructions and guidance will mirror how plants and animals are who and what they are, without technique or becoming.
Everything in nature simply is. More fundamentally than your mind, body and emotions, you too, also, are. We will be exploring and discovering that, together.
The retreat schedule will include silent meditation, instructions and guided meditation, time to walk or hike the land, free time, Q&A/discussion, dharma talks, and small group breakouts. There will also be some optional guided movement in the morning. The meditation approach taught is more Direct Path or Non Dual, with a focus on presence in nature, though if you prefer to practice Mindfulness that is totally welcome.
